• Has anyone as yet come up with a way to speed up wordpress with godaddy linux hosting? I have 4 sites hosted there and have never had a problem. Just added a wordpress blog https://www.inspirationalparenting.com and it is unbearably slow. Even got warned by google that there was a problem. I see a lot of other people with the same complaints but cannot find a solution other than switch web hosts. I am ready to do that at this point! Godaddy support just tells me everything is fine and that it is a WordPress problem. I have tried different themes including just the basic one and they are all the same. Admin is so slow it sometimes just hangs. FTP is impossible! It can take hours to upload a small site with me having to retry time after time. Their own FTP site won’t even do more than 1 file at a time without hanging!

    Any ideas???

  • I confirm your findings. Consider switching.

    i think stvwlf is right. switching may be the only answer. Ive been looking around, and this has been an issue for the last year. not sure if it even CAN be fixed.

    Godaddy support just tells me everything is fine and that it is a WordPress problem

    then why does wordpress run incredibly fast on decent hosts who’s servers aren’t overloaded with users?
    this is typical godaddy crap instead of dealing with the issue
    next they will try to sell you on a dedicated server

    I do a lot of installs
    hostgator is fast
    A Small Orange is fast
    their prices are comparable to godaddy

    @digitalrenewal
    Sorry about this! We’re always willing to take a look. I saw your post on another thread. I sent you an email asking for some more details so that we can check it out.

    @ GDHostingyou are great about wanting to contact folks ans smooth away their problems.
    However, I never see you back here with a resolution.
    Godaddy would be better served setting folks up with a linux server as default and limiting the number of accts. on shared servers.
    All I see is a “put out the fire” and move on mentality.

    DONT USE GODADDY SHARED HOSTING FOR WP HOSTING….

    Here is a second round of support communications from them…

    FYI – Using a reverse IP lookup I found out there are over 3900 sites hosted on the same server as mine. WTF are they thinking. I could be running GoDaddy shared hosting out of my garage.

    We apologize for any confusion in this matter. Our administrators actively monitor the performance of our hosting and balance the load on the servers as needed. However, as your site is hosted within a shared environment, you may experience periods of reduced performance. If you wish to have further resources devoted to your individual site, you may wish to investigate the purchase of our Grid hosting instead of our shared hosting.

    Please let us know if we can help any other way.

    WordPress 2.8 caused a noticeable improvement in speed for me on GoDaddy’s shared hosting, but yes, the fact of the matter is that their shared servers are horribly overloaded. If you want speed, look elsewhere, but don’t expect it to be quite as cheap.

    Things I’ve found that help on GoDaddy’s shared hosting:
    1. WP-Super-Cache. The hosting isn’t as bad at static files.
    2. Use Google Libraries plugin, to eliminate long load times for javascript loading.
    3. WordPress 2.8 causes a rather dramatic dashboard loading speedup.
    4. In GoDaddy’s hosting configuration, change it to PHP5 instead of the default PHP4. PHP5 runs much quicker on their systems for some reason.

    I could be running GoDaddy shared hosting out of my garage.

    lol. I hear ya. I am about to switch my blog from godaddy. I have been signed up for about 2 weeks. The performance is horrible.

    @boxcarwilli
    Grid is certainly an option. Otto42 also provides some good tips. What’s the ticket number so I can follow up?

    @djcryptic
    We want to keep your business and would like to help you out. Our team can review the performance issues. Submit a ticket via [email protected]. Once you receive the email with ticket number please post back with it so that I can follow up.

    I, too, have problems with WP running incredibly slow on GoDaddy. Painfully slow. A friend is using Webhostingpad and WP runs very quickly for her. While I’ve otherwise been happy with GoDaddy, perhaps a change is in order…

    I got the same problem too. I just have placed a support question at Godaddy. Waiting for their response.

    Just got a reply back with the following:
    Thank you for contacting Online Support. Our administrators actively monitor the performance of our hosting and balance the load on the servers as needed. However, as your site is hosted within a shared environment, you may experience periods of reduced performance. If you wish to have further resources devoted to your individual site including access to logs and specific services, you may wish to investigate the purchase of our Virtual or Dedicated Servers.

    This can generally be caused by the application interfacing with the database or just to the amount of content the site contains. You can improve performance by optimizing the fields and tables of your database.

    Hmm not really a solution, more telling me to get a dedicated server.

    I use GoDaddy as well. The worst thing about it is when I use the File Manager to, well, manage my files or the FTP client to do the same it takes forever and often times the directory tree is not available or the FTP client can’t connect to the server. How can it not connect to the server when I’m using GoDaddy’s FTP client through their own site to access a server they are hosting? Yeah, I don’t get it either.

    Here’s another extremely unhappy camper. My previous html-only site ran perfectly but the database-server that is the backbone of any WP site can be so s l o w…

    In fact, I’ve noticed that on a lot of fridays it just stops. Not even slow: just zilch, de nada, de rien, nothing, null. Right now I’ve been trying to reach my site for more than one hour. Thru FTP no problem, but the MySQL driven WP content just doesn’t appear. The whole database server is nowhere to be found…

    I won’t be recommending GoDaddy to anyone anymore. The standard replies I’ve read here from customer ‘support’ are a joke. I don’t have many visitors. We’re talking 100 hundred visits a week maybe. Still, there are customers within that group and I want them to be able to visit my site. I’m not going to pay for a dedicated server. I’m not asking for blazing speeds, I only want to be able to reach my site…

    My blogs on godaddy (deluxe hosting plan – works on on regular sites) take 40-45 seconds to load – on dsl, with 4 mb of ram and a dedicated graphics card with 1 mb of ram and a fast intel processor. This is even reloading, therefore some files are pulling from the cache, no less!

    Are others getting this miserably slow loading?

    *Has anyone tried the grid hosting account on godaddy and had better luck?
