• I am thinking that it might be time for a new forum category dedicated to spam extermination. It is obviously a main issue with a lot of users and I know that I have a hard time keeping up with all the current threads as they are.
    Just a though.

  • That decision would be down to Matt, but I would disagree.
Yes there are a lot of spam posts, but these are spread across a lot of threads. The reason for this being that someone gets spammed, comes here, doesn’t search and starts a new thread.
Even if there was a spam forum, this behaviour would continue.
It is an important issue, but it is not a new phenomenon. There are plenty of tactics that can be used against spammers, and these are being created by talented users all the time – only the other day TechGnome produced some code to prevent comments for non-existent posts being left in the database – but even with a dedicated forum, users will have to search for the answers to their problems.
Like I said though, the decision is Matt’s.

Any idea where TechGnome’s code is?

Gee I had no idea my little ol’ code would be so sought after.
I agree with podz, I don’t know how many different posts I saw all about the same thing… and they would all be stacked ontop of each other on the main page!

@techgnome: Thats a neat bit of code. I could have thought about this myself, but I guess I wasn’t thinking “outside of the box”! ??
Anyway.. I’ve now got that, my own referal hack and a new hack i’m working on, which is an AuthImage using PHP and ImageMagik (which can be seen working on my site). So far so good, it all seems to be keeping the spammers at a safe distance!
