I have one image field defined (logo).
The example export file produced has ‘logo’ as a column title, but any entry that contains a [manually added] logo image simply has ‘Array’ (as text) in that logo column.
The actual export csv has both ‘logo’ and ‘images’ column headers, but again, the logo column merely contains ‘Array’ (when the entry has an image), and the images column is empty (regardless of the presence/absence of an image on the listing).

Problem 1 : the example csv doesn’t have an ‘images’ column, and I assume it should.
Problem 2 : both the example csv and the actual csv export have the text ‘Array’ in the logo column (when there is an image present on the listing).
Problem 3 : the actual csv doesn’t have anything in its images column.
Problem 4 : the actual csv export does not produce a zip containing both the csv and the listing images, just the [incorrect] csv.
Problem 5 : neither export shows the caption(s).

I’m guessing this probably has something to do with the image field also providing a ‘caption’ field?

I have struggled with image imports, basically because the example csv didn’t have that images column, and the instructions for producing an import csv are unclear.
I think what I’m supposed to do is put the name of my ‘logo’ image file into both the logo column and the images column, is that correct?
And how is the image’s caption entered in the import csv?

    Hi @wizzud,

Sorry that you ran into issues here!

First, the CSV documentation is here in case you had trouble locating it.

    https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/knowledge-base/csv-import-export/

Some of what you’re talking about is covered in there…but I’ll answer your questions individually too:

Problem 1 : the example csv doesn’t have an ‘images’ column, and I assume it should.

Images are optional, as noted above in the documentation. The images column isn’t required to be in the CSV.

Problem 2 : both the example csv and the actual csv export have the text ‘Array’ in the logo column (when there is an image present on the listing).

That sounds like a bug. I’ll investigate that issue.

Problem 3 : the actual csv doesn’t have anything in its images column.

I assume you mean for export–if so, this is correct. See below..

Problem 4 : the actual csv export does not produce a zip containing both the csv and the listing images, just the [incorrect] csv.

The CSV export doesn’t produce a ZIP with images–it was never intended to work that way. Our CSV IMPORT uses a ZIP with images, but we don’t export them. If you are moving images from one site to another, it’s easier to copy the uploads directory anyhow. Sorry for any confusion there.

Problem 5 : neither export shows the caption(s).

Captions are a new addition to the last release. It’s quite possible we missed that and need to add support for it.

Topic continued on the Business Directory Support Forum, at https://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/support-questions/import-export-broken-for-images/

I now have a clearer understanding of the usage of the CSV’s ‘images’ column.
This topic now resolves down to 2 (related?) issues …

    • a bug, in the exporting of “Image (file upload)” fields, and
    • a question about how to import “Image (file upload)” (the file as an upload, and the caption)

… both of which are being investigated ??

    Hi @wizzud,

Yes. I’ve just become aware of that second thread above. In the future, please do not double-post issues between the forums. We check both, so this only generates confusion. We will keep the responses here to avoid further chaos.

If you are going to post responses here – as you have stated above, and as you have also indicated on the thread in your own forum – then marking this as Resolved seems a mite … premature?
Since there is an unconfirmed bug, and an unanswered question, I’m resetting to Not Resolved.
When the investigation – which I assume is ongoing? – provides some results (or even just some feedback) then it might be acceptable to mark the topic as Resolved.

    Hi @wizzud,

    Sorry for any confusion here.

The vast majority of people who post in the forums do not manage their responses or mark them resolved/unresolved so I mark everything as Resolved once I’ve responded. That doesn’t mean, however, that I won’t respond or that the matter is necessarily solved. It’s just a simple matter of housekeeping on the forum.

As you can see, we actively monitor the forum and respond to ANY replies we receive on here, regardless of the thread state.

If you feel strongly about it, I will leave your thread “unresolved” but either way, we will provide an answer to your questions as you’ve requested.
