You can use gravatar plugin to insert an image as author image.

and I am sure GRAVATAR plugin will work in amp version also.

Meanwhile, I have check again and the photo showing in amp version.

if you are using any cache plugin the clear the cache and check.

If the GDPR option is enabled then accept the cookies and check if the photo showing or not.
