I have a .csv file with 330 names that in Excel properly alphabetizes by LAST name. After I import it (it imports with no problems), your plug-in changes the alphabetical order to FIRST name. I tested a smaller number of names .csv file and your plug-in did not alter the order.

I need the names in the .csv file with hundreds of names to remain alphabetized by LAST name after I import into your plug-in. How do I accomplish this?

    Thanks

    Hi @visgro,

thanks for using my plugin and for contacting me.

I am not entirely sure what you are expecting here. Name Directory is not aware of something called first- or lastname. It knows ‘name’, ‘description’ and a few other elements. Did you download the sample .csv file and fill this one?

    Kind regards,

Yes, I did download the sample .csv file. And I found it odd that the sample file only contained first names, not first name, last name. Now I understand why. Because, when importing a .csv file of contacts containing first name and last name (like all contacts) your plugin is apparently not capable of retaining the formula from Excel where sorting is done by last name. It actually changes the order and alphabetizes by first name.

I suppose one could have names supported by last name, but they would have to appear:

    Lastname, Firstname

and that’s not acceptable for most, certainly not for me.

I hope you will consider adding this very basic functionality in a future release, as not being able to maintain names in alphabetical order from a .csv file severely limits the usefulness of the plugin. Might be useful for those who want to type in the names one-by-one. I have to be able to use .csv import for lists of hundreds of names, while not losing the structure and order maintained in Excel.

I’m moving on to a better solution.

    Thank you.

    Hi @visgro,

Thanks for clarifying. You’d is choose the wrong plug-in indeed, what you are Looking for sounds more like an employee directory or something like that. I have huilt that before, this one is more like a glossary.

I have a lot of happy users for whom this plug-in is a great fit. You might think adding an extra field is a small feature but most of my users do not need it and would think it is too much.

I think your desicion to use another plug-in is a good one. Since you are moving on I would like to Thank you for trying the plug-in, but I am not changing it for now.

Best of luck with your website!
    Kind regards,

    Jeroen Peters
