I have installed 3 different themes and none of them have the images in the preview (Twenty Sixteen, Ample, and Moesia). I only need them as placeholders so I can replace later but I do need them. What could I be doing wrong?

I download the theme, made active, installed all the plugins, and every time I get a white page with black text and either a sidebar or a footer.

I even went as far as to copy the background from one of them to my computer and added it to the background image and it dropped in under the footer (likely because I have no idea what I am doing) but every tutorial shows the images coming with the themes.

Any help is a gift. thank you for looking.

BTW. No link, I am building on XAMPP

The picture you see on the theme’s page is a demo, built carefully to make it beautiful. The theme itself is an empty house; it doesn’t come with the furniture and decorations. Some themes make the demo content available — check their readme files to see if you can get the content they used in their showcase.

?? thank you. Sadly that makes the file telling me how to customize it is worthless until I figure out how to add an image in the right place and the right size.

I hate being the newb again lol.

You’ll get it going, just take your time and have patience.
I need to remind myself that constantly! ??

If you go to “Appearance” and then “Customize” it (depending on the theme) will offer the different things to change/add, etc. Click on them and it will open some options.

There you can add a photo.

One way I think I’ve tried to get a proper size photo is look at the demo, then copy the photo and check it’s size, then make one the same size to fit or go to the forum for that specific theme and see if they have listed the dimensions and stuff in any documentation, or ask in the forum for that theme.

    Hope that helps.

thank you. I will look for a complete one to tinker with first. get my feet wet. *Crosses fingers.

Good luck. I have noticed some themes will tell you what recommended size photos should be.
Then after that is just try to not have a photo with a large file size, there are different ways to compress file sizes or optimize so they aren’t going to slow down your website loading on someone’s device.
