    Hi,
I’m looking for a reliable backup and restore plugin, may be for migration later.

I’m not quite sure what “serialized data in a database” really means, but obviously a good plugin should take care of it.

Does UpdraftPlus consider serialized data when doing normal backups and restores?

    Thanks

    Martin
(btw, fantastic FAQ at https://updraftplus.com/frequently-asked-questions/ but due to the search tool there is no info about serialized data)

    Hi Martin,

Serialized data is only relevant to site cloning – i.e. moving your site to a different address. That’s not a feature of the free version of UpdraftPlus. It is a feature of the paid version and, yes, serialized data is handled in that case.

    Hi David,
    thanks for your fast response.

“Moving” with a cloned site means all cases:
    – different hoster, same URL
    – same hoster, different URL
    – different hoster and different URL?

What about having an old static html site (no database) and building/testing it as WP site on a subdomain which has a different folder. Old site and WP site are on the same webserver.

WP site is ready and I want to go live with it, i.e., it has to get the real URL, not the subdomain any more, which was just for testing purposes.

Is this a case for “moving” a clone too? Virtually the second case of the three above?

    Hi Martin,

Moving a site means moving it to a different website address, i.e. URL.
