High resolution up and down arrows?

I managed to substitute the up and down arrow images as per the instructions, however they seem to be limited to 12 x 14 pixels, which makes them blurry on high resolution displays. If I change to say 48 x 56, the arrows become huge. I think this is because the “background-image” is uses which does not allow to specify image dimensions.

because you cannot specify image dimensions in a background image
Incorrect, there are pixel ration definitions for css that handle that.
