How do I make my posts into a “summary” that you click to open the full thing?

  • Hi guys,

    Please see my first post entitled “jay jay pistolet”. As you can see, it is very big (in terms of text), as it was a long interview and thus lots of words to be typed. But it doesn’t fit the “feel” of the rest of the posts which are much smaller.

    How can i make it so that you can see the first few words or whatever and then have to click the post title or another link to read the full thing?

    Do you know what I mean?

    As always, I really appreciate all the help on here.

    In your theme, you want to change the_content() to the_excerpt()

    Oh, silly me.. I forgot to leave a link!

    My page is thegoldenowl.co.uk and it’s the second post, after the one called “this week, leeds”.

    With the excerpt tag thing, does it cap the post at a certain number or do you set it? Because some posts I want long, and some i’d like capped!

    Know what I mean?

    Read the link ?? Seriously, in that first paragraph of the link I put up, it answers your questions.

    Displays the excerpt of the current post with […] at the end, which is not a “read more” link. If you do not provide an explicit excerpt to a post (in the post editor’s optional excerpt field), it will display a teaser which refers to the first 55 words of the post’s content. Also in the latter case, HTML tags and graphics are stripped from the excerpt’s content. This tag must be within The Loop.

    So this means: If you do not customize the excerpt, you get the 55 words and a […]. If you do customize it, it can be as long as you want.
