How to Translate Emails

I really like this plugin as I can easily create custom forms for different languages but unfortunately, unlesss I am missing something, I cannot create emails in anything other than the default language. Do you have any plans to address this in the future?

I have only today came across this Plug-in. Worked liked a dream – all I needed was an Admin approval Registration Form -super.
But ow I realise it is all in English.
AndyMaggs65 – I have found where to change the Email languages – Under the User Registration sidebar, then the third Tab “Emails”. So for me at least, that is all OK to change manually. I would do this anyway to personalise things.
All the rest though? I have had this before (I am a WordPress novice), but I recall needing a PO or MO file from you? Or do I need to translate myself (I have used Loco Translate when needed)?

I have used Loco Translate before, but I don’t think it will help in the case of emails because they are user-definable. There needs to be the ability to enter multiple versions of the emails for each language supported by the site.

I see what you mean, only one language is possilbe. I have now translated the relevant emails. I only need German.Problem:
The font end and the backend are all in Englsih. Loco translate is not working.Any ideas? Is anyone using another language set?

If you would like to translate the email content then you should be able to do that from User Registration->Settings->Emails

How would a multilingual plugin be able to handle translating your email templates? If the email template gets extracted into a po file then fine, I could use loco translate to translate it but your plugin logic would have to know to go to the po file to get the email content in the first place. Does it do that – I would be very surprised if it did? What am I not understanding here?

All the email contents are translation ready. Are you facing any issues on tranlating those? It does go to the po file. Also, as stated earlier, there is a settings to change the contents directly.

I don’t think you are right, I cannot find the email text in the pot file but I can find the default text in the php files in wp-content\plugins\user-registration\includes\admin\settings\email, so my guess is that the default text is taken from these files unless a user edits the text via the settings page after which the text is taken from the database instead although at the moment I am struggling to find where the text is actually stored in the database.
The bottom line is that although the email text can be edited to another language the plugin DOES NOT SUPPORT MULTIPLE LANGUAGES at least as far as emails are concerned which is a shame because otherwise it is nearly perfect.

I can see that in the latest version, the email text is now appearing in the pot file and I can add a translation, however, the translated text is not actually being used when the email is sent. You can see this behaviour if you register an account at https://www.crcsite.org/pt/registrar – ensure you supply a valid email address so that you can see the email sent from the site – I have definitely entered and saved a translation for this email but you will just receive the English version.

I can see that you registered and you will have received an email message that should have been in Portuguese but was in English, furthermore, I have now denied your registration and that also should have been in Portuguese but was in English. With the initial registration email you should be able to figure out which language to use for the email based on the page calling whatever function actually creates the user account. However, I am not sure how you could know what language to use when sending the approve and deny emails given that they are initiated by an Admin who will almost certainly be using the admin console in English unless you perhaps store a custom property against the user being ‘preferred language’ say which is set at registration time based on the language of the page they used?

I got your point. The default email contents are translation ready. However once you save the email contents from the settings, the contents will be fetched from the database which are not tranlsation ready. In your case looks so, if you delete the option
user_registration_awaiting_admin_approval_email
, you should get the default email contents which are translation ready. Any particular reason you are not changing the contents in the language of your choice from the email settings? Also, we have the filter hook for every default emails, in your caseuser_registration_get_awaiting_admin_approval_email
if you like to change the default emails.Thank you!

I am not sure I totally understand what you are asking me.
Our website supports English, French and Portuguese – the user can select their preferred language on any page. Thus we expect a Portuguese speaking user to select Portuguese and view the pages in Portuguese whereas an English speaking user will view the English pages. Ideally when a new user registers and they use the Portuguese registration page we have created for them they should ideally receive emails in Portuguese whereas an English user will use the English registration page and get emails in English.
As it happens, I was not happy with the default English emails and edited them from the Settings page and then created the Portuguese version in the translation file. However, as you say, because the default email has been edited the value is now coming from the database and the translation is not referred to. In my view there is no need to have the emails in the translation file at all, just put them in the database and support multiple language versions there?

Currently, we do not support multi-language, we are looking into supporting one of the multilingual plugins. Please stay updated.

If you can support both Polylang (the one we use because it has a free option) and WPML (probably the most popular but with no free option) then that would be ideal!
