I downloaded the free version of Updraftplus to try it out and installed the plugi and all seemed to be fine.
I set it to back up once a day and to send to email. I was not asked to enter any email address though it seemed to have poicked up one of my email addresses from somewhere.
I then hit BACKUP NOW – the prgress bar appeared and moved very slowly and eventyally disappeared.
However, there is now a link which says “No backup has been completed” and I have not received any email
The following message appears alongside Last log message:

Adding batch to zip file (UpdraftPlus_PclZip): over 500 files added on this batch (12.3 MB, 7460 files batched, 501 (501) added so far); re-opening (prior size: 32995.5 KB) (May 11 19:39:24)
Download most recently modified log file

Could anyone please tell me if Updraft has or is backing up my website and, if so, where is the backup?
    Many thanks

    Hi,

Please could you send us a copy of the latest backup log? This can be found in the UpdraftPlus Existing Backups tab.

The contents will be too long to post here directly, but you can use an online service such as Dropbox or Pastebin, and post the link here.

    Best Wishes,
    Bryle

    Hello
First of all, I am very grateful to you for your help. It is much apprecaited.
You will probably have gathered that I am in no way an IT expert – despite spending half my life in front of a computer I have very little IT experience.
I have spent around two hours figuring out how to do as you ask and send you the backup log. I have since set up Dropbox and put it there but when I go to share I have noo idea what to put in the “To: email or name” box – can you please advise.
It seems that the data was backed up at some stage but I have no idea if it was right, where it is stored or if it will back-up regularly.
One new development is that now, whenever I go to the UpdraftPlud Backup/restore page a box keeps coming up saying: “www.bo-borsa says: Unexpected response: Security check” – I cant sem to be able to get rid of this.

Here is how to share a link in Dropbox (found by Googling “Dropbox share link”): https://www.dropbox.com/help/files-folders/view-only-access

The “Security check” message is what WordPress returns if your login session has ended. Try logging in again.

Thank you for your help. Actually I have no problem with Dropbox – the file is sat there waiting to be retrieved – the only thing is I am being asked fpr the name or email of the person I want to share it with and I have no idea what to put there so that @bcrodua can retrieve it

Thanks also for the info concerning the warning message – very helpful

    Hi,

    Apologies for the delay.

You should be able to create a link without specifying an email address. Then, post that link here.

Thank you very much – as you will have gathered my IT knowledge is in the ‘Dummy’ category!
I have just checked and it says the next back-up is scheduled for today so it is probably working – however it still says “No backup has been completed” which is waht puzzles me. Also could you tell me where the backup is being stored?

    Thanks again and best wishes

    Hi Michael,

From the log, it appears that the backup is being timed out while attempting to process the backup files.

Please could you open the ‘expert settings’ in the Settings tab, and find the ‘Split archives every’ option. Please set this to 100MB.

This will split the backups into smaller, more easily processed files.
Could you then test a fresh backup?
