Looking to add logo to header background

I am trying to create a top header that can use a full-size image in which I can place the logo where I want in the picture (left – right or center) and I’m having trouble getting it working.

When I try to customize the header and add new image it’s says:

Click “Add new image” to upload an image file from your computer. Your theme works best with an image with a header size of 1950 x 500 pixels — you’ll be able to crop your image once you upload it for a perfect fit.

So I created an image that included the logo with those dimensions. When I tried to upload and add the new image, something seems to be happening in the background where it is getting resized and not fitting within the header image area (maybe too large so part is not showing). This happens whether I try to crop the image or skip cropping.

I have tried creating images at other sizes, but can’t seem to get this to work as I expected to.

Example: I create a small logo and add it then it just repeats many times.

Can someone enlighten me how to get the logo in the header positioned where ever I want it to be and at whatever size I wanted to be.
