• I’m building a site for our chamber of commerce, which has a membership directory currently in Access/Excel. I’d like to use WordPress to do the site but before I begin, I’m not sure if I will need a plug-in to import my database, or if I have to key in all the membership information one by one. If there IS a plug in that will help me import a database, can someone please tell me the names of some of them, so I can look through? Thanks very much.

  • Hello Lizbit, it depends on how much data you’re looking to import. This plugin looks like it should do the trick if you just need to import names, email addresses, and roles:

It won’t import directly but you should be able to export from your database into a text file and then use that for the import. Excel and Access should both be able to do a pipe-delimited export.

Thanks so much for the reply. I was giving up hope that someone would be able to help me with this!

Actually, the database consists of a business name, contact person, physical address, mailing address, phone, type of business, website address, email address. While the database contains a few other fields, these are the only ones I would want to appear on the site.

I am not opposed to entering the information manually. So, I guess in a “refreshed” question, is there a plugin/module that is suitable for a database such as this, and one that would give me the ability to have a ‘map it’ button next to it (you know those sites that have a business name, along with a “map it,”, “email us,” “website link” buttons….

If I know these modules/plugins are available for this sort of thing, I’m ready to begin work on the site!!

    Thanks again.
