• Hello,

It’s been a while since I’ve moved a site from my development MAMP environment to a live server. What I’m doing is making a backup with Xcloner. Then putting the .tar file in the public_html directory and then adding in the scripts: TAR.php and XCloner.php. Then I run the XCloner.php script. This has always worked. Is this no longer the recommended way? Will this still work under certain cirumstances? Like with certain PHP versions?

Maybe I missed it but I’m not sure what the best way is to restore a site to a new server is. I’m getting the impression it might be something like:
    1. Install WordPress.
    2. Add the Xcloner plugin.
    3. Upload the .tar file that is to be restored. Preferably to the backups folder for Xcloner.
    4. In the Restore Backups panel validate the xcloner_restore.php script.
    5. Select the archive to be restored.

    Does that work?

    Thanks.

    Hello! Thanks for the reply.

These steps start with WordPress and Xcloner already installed. If that is correct then Step 1 would be to install the latest WordPress and Xcloner on the new server. Then I would begin with these steps.

I haven’t done a restore in a while so it seems to have changed some. I suppose this is a good problem to have.

    Yes that is correct.

Yes running into this issue/situation helps you improve your ability to restore a site and or to move a site to a new server.

Just a note, some still restore and move sites to new servers manually via phpMyAdmin. However they still have to install WordPress in the new server as you pointed out above. To tell you the truth after you have moved a site to a new server a few times, it becomes second nature :).

There are other areas that you might run into trouble some times but that is another story :).

    Kind regards
