Hi, if you use updraft plus migration function you duplicate your site beween your staging and production envirobment. Since the whole content, files and databases are copied i presume that Google will index both sites and notice duplicate content. What if you change robot.txt to not-index the staging environment. will that setting be overwritten on the next migration from the production to staging?

Thanks for any input in advance

    Gerald

    Hi Gerald,

I believe it is not ideal to have your staging sites indexed by Google. You can turn off Search Engine Visibility on staging sites in WordPress Settings > Reading > ‘Search Engine Visibility’.

You may also want to put your staging site behind password protection.
