All my wordpress files are residing on a server (host is AWS), transferred from local (using MAMP). On local, I am able to install plugins but when I try to login to my WordPress account on the AWS server and install a plugin, an error occurs that says:

“Installation failed: Could not create directory.”

I have tried going to my FTP and right-clicking ‘wp-content’ folder > “File Permissions…”

Owner permissions is set to ‘Read, Write, Execute’ (all checked). Numeric value is 755. Still I cannot install any plugins.

Anyone can help me with this?

  • Hello @skwayred

It is surely a permissions issue. Might be you also need to change the Group Owner.

So you might need to execute the commands for the same. If you are not aware of SSH commands, you can request the AWS support team and they will surely help you.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

    Thanks.

Solved already. Yeah, it’s a permissions issue. I already got the permission.
