I’m very happy to see that the Slides settings’ Video and Link feature can accept URLs to server-hosted MP4 files, despite the text that states only “Youtube or Vimeo video as slide.” However, I’d like if at all possible to be able to play only a segment of a video on a file.

For instance, when using any modern browser’s built-in html5 player, the URL “https://download.blender.org/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/BigBuckBunny_320x180.mp4#t=4,7” will start at the 4th second of Big Bunny and stop at the 7th second. However, when the same URL is entered into the Video and Link feature, your built-in player ignores the “#t=” information and plays the entire cartoon (even though the information does show up properly in the source view for the rendered html page).

I’m hoping for a feature like this so I could use Master Slider to create a kind of video gallery or playlist, where navigating to different slides could play different segments of the same video. Maybe surprisingly, it’s very hard to find such a feature, particularly with the potential that Master Slider has got for updating a different section of its player to show additional content, such as text. I’m finding for instance that putting an iframe, whose “src” property points to a web-hosted text file, into Master Slider’s setting for Slide Info, can be a really cool way to display a video’s transcript next to a playing video, complete with a scrollbar to view the text that extends below the Slider area. Such a feature would add real functionality to online courses that make use of longer classroom-style lecture videos, which is my intended use. (Even if I can’t point to play times within longer videos, I still might end up using Master Slider and separating the lectures’ sections into different short mp4 files, one per slide. I’d prefer to avoid that, however, to allow for maximum flexibility in making sections.)

If Master Slider can’t understand time information within mp4’s, can anyone suggest an alternative that can? I’d like very much to use self-hosted video files, as this feature would be within a learning management system with only small numbers of registered users, and I don’t want to see the content shared outside that system or branded with commercial logos. Far too many of the WordPress plugins for creating video playlists and galleries turn out only to work with Vimeo and Youtube videos, which is not at all what I’m after.

    Thanks!
    Jim

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for choosing Master Slider.

It is not possible to play video up to specific time.

Self-hosted videos can only be added as background videos. And they will not be played in a video player, so there is no possibility of pausing them.
We can make a plan to do that on our next major update. This major update is so professional and it has some new features, however, it will not happen soon and we cannot say when it will be.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

    Best,
