• Hi,

When do we need to make new plugins? Why do we need to make new plugins? Isn’t wring themes enough to make new websites/blogs?

I’ve moved this out of Developing with WordPress as it’s not that sort of forum.

You make a new plugin when you want to solve a problem and either no existing plugin addresses it or (best) you want to code a solution yourself.

Also, some things belong in themes, some in plugins. While you could drop code into a theme’s functions.php, there are things that you may want to survive a change of theme, such as post types, shortcodes, or custom taxonomies. Those should be put into a plugin.

I tell people that you create a new plugin when you want to add new functionality.
