My site is gone. I use Blue Host and the Evolve Theme. There was a recommendation of a plugin download, which I did. I don’t remember what download it was, though. I was trying to figure out how to change things in the theme. My login to WordPress is gone also. When I type in my site name, to access it, I get a circle with an I in it which tells me my connection is not secure and it acts like a download. PLEASE help. I have had this site for over 5 years with WordPress.

    Thank you.

  • I would suggest you check your files on your host first… Something is definitely off and I doubt it’s because of a plugin update. I too get a download file download when I hit your link.
Unfortunately, I can’t do more as I don’t have access.

I suspect the plugin you downloaded has broken the .htaccess file on your site. Fixing this requires two parts:

First, rename the directory of the plugin you just downloaded. That will deactivate the plugin, which insures it will not break your site again when the .htaccess file is fixed. After your site is back up, delete the renamed directory so you don’t accidently activate the plugin in the future..

Second, you’ll need to restore the correct AddHandler or SetHandler line in the .htaccess file. If you are unable to do this, then contact Bluehost, and with any luck, they will do it for you or tell you how to do it yourself.

In my distress, I failed to mention that my WordPress login also comes up with a circle with an i it. So, I can not access anything. My WordPress account seems to be gone.

Orangeworx – thank you for your reply. It feels better that the same thing happens to someone else.

DionDesigns – thank you for your reply. I don’t really know how to do that. I am mot sure I can if I have nothing to access. I am completely lost on this!

The problem has been fixed! I went to Blue Host and they said that the .htaccess file was the problem, just as you said DionDesign. Thank you for your suggestions. I will check out the files that you recommended.

Thank you Forum, for your help.
