I can not set “From Name” when I use gmail for WP Mail SMTP. Sender name always appear my gmail mail adress. For example my email is [email protected], then Sender name appears as abcd while I set From Name as XYZ.

    How can I solve this?

Thanks all for reporting the issue.

It will be fixed in WP Mail SMTP 1.3.0.

Hi @slaffik, you’ve just give the URL of this topic, not the Github URL.
Can you tell us (average) when the new update will be available ?
    Thanks

    Oops, sorry.
Here is the correct link: https://github.com/awesomemotive/wp-mail-smtp/issues/160
It should take no more than several weeks.

    Hello,

I am having the same issue. I’m guessing that it’s still not fixed.
Are you planning to solve it soon?

    Thank you.

    Best regards.

I don’t know if this will work for you but I found a workaround that works for me. After a crazy amount of time trying to get the WP MAIL SMTP plugin and other similar plugins to work the way I needed, I ditched the SMTP completely. Using just the WPFORMS plugin, somehow I discovered that if I did the following things, emails from the contact form on my website get labeled in a way that works for me and also get delivered immediately in the Gmail inbox instead of going to spam with no scary warnings.

    1. Through CPanel set up an email address such as “[email protected]
    2. Also, through CPanel set up a forwarder from “[email protected]” to a Gmail address
    3. On the Notifications page in the WPFORMS plugin, set the “Send To Email Address” the same as the “From Address”. I did not use code; I just put in the email address: [email protected].

I hope this works for you and anyone else struggling with this issue.

This is marked as resolved, but you never actually resolved it. I have tried about 5 different things taking me several hours and NOTHING has worked. Did you actually add this into your update? It’s been almost a year. If not, can you add it now? Or at least offer a work-around or something? The github url you referenced above (from about 11 months ago) is throwing a 404 error.

    Hi all,

I apologize for any confusion here! A few months ago, Google changed their API so that it no longer allows certain settings to be adjusted. For example, it no longer allows you to change the From Name via the API.

Instead, Google will only pull your From Name from your Google account settings.

If this isn’t a good fit for your site, then the best next step is to switch to a different mailer option within WP Mail SMTP. Since the other mailer options do not use Google’s API, they do not have the same restrictions.

In case it helps, here are our setup tutorials for the other mailer options in WP Mail SMTP:

    SendGrid
    Mailgun
    Other SMTP

I hope this is helpful! ??

In the Post SMTP plugin, you can change the from name and e-mail address sent from by setting it in the settings tab of the plugin, and also adding the from name and e-mail address as an alias of yours in your Gmail settings (on the Accounts tab). This also might work for WP Mail SMTP users?

Hi hastibe – I’m not familiar with that plugin, so I’m not sure if this might have functionality implications — but I’ve shared this with our team so they can keep the idea on their radar!

Hi, I still do have an urgent issues with the “from” name.

WP Mail SMTP is not using the gmail settings consistently. e.g. notification emails from contact form 7 are using the correct (in gmail defined) from name, while the WP Mail SMTP test e-mails or the emails from WooCommerce don’t.

In those cases only the gmail account name is used. For example:
    * gmail email adress: [email protected]
    * From name: my company
    * form email sender name in inbox of recipient “hello”

    Could you please advise.

    Hi,
    same problem here.
I’m using WP MAIL SMTP, and I would like to send email using the gmail API

I’ve the following settings inside gmail account:
    – Email address: [email protected]
    – From Name : Company Name

But users receive my emails without the From Name.
They see only “noreply” as sender.

To be more specific, this happens to me only using the “GMAIL” Mailer method.
Using the “Other SMTP” Mailer Method does not give this problem.

Please could you help us to find a solution?
    Thanks in advance.
