Account Disappeared

  • Hello! I got myself a website a couple years ago. I initially did a site through WordPress.com, then transferred to a self-hosted site and used www.remarpro.com. I haven’t really touched my site in about 10 months, but I recently started getting Jetpack notifications about my site going down and coming back up. That happens occasionally, but it started happening 5-6 times a day. I’ve been working, so I haven’t had time to look into it, but then I got an email from my host (hostgator) that they’d blocked my site because of malicious malware.I went into my cPanel and got rid of the offending script, sent HostGator an email, and they brought my site backup.

    But I can’t login to my WordPress admin. I have my info auto-saved, and I tried logging in the same way I have every other time, but it didn’t work. I’ve been trying various solutions others have had in this forum, including updating my password through phpMyAdmin, but nothing works, including trying password recovery (it says an email is sent, but I never receive anything). It says that I don’t have an account, even though I have saved info, and have logged in before. I even created a new www.remarpro.com account (the one I’m currently posting from), but nothing I’ve tried has work. At this point, I’m considering scrapping everything I have and starting from scratch. Would I be able to completely reinstall wordpress and start over from my cPanel?

    have you tried to create a new user with administrator permissions using phpmyadmin?

    Carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

    If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Off hand, couple of names that come to mind are Sucuri and Wordfence.

    Well, I was thinking about doing a complete design overhaul soon anyway. Would completely uninstalling WordPress, then reinstalling it and starting fresh take care of the malware?

    Fresh installation with fresh database (totally unrelated to the hacked site) should be clean.

    However, it may also get hacked just as this one.

    Therefore, to minimize the chance of that from happening, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
