I probably backed the wrong horse when I decided to install TheGem template… Now I am having a big issue and the developer does not really help me to fix it.

In WooCommerce products is a field for the description, right underneath the title. Yoast SEO analysis the readability and SEO for the description.

“TheGem” theme comes with its own field “Product Description”.

I had to copy the description of all of my products to this new field, to make it show up within the products tab “description”. Any text in the original field for the description shows up at the bottom of the product page, underneath the tabs and the related products gallery. This is completely useless…

No I wonder if I can make Yoast SEO taking the new “Product Description” field for its analysis, and not the “old” description (page content) field.

Any idea how I can fix the problem, so Yoast SEO can properly analyze my product descriptions again?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hello,

We’re not familiar with that theme or custom plugin. We do know that the Yoast SEO content and readability analysis scans the default editor for content. You can also edit the title and meta description for that product by editing it in the Yoast SEO meta box and clicking on the ‘edit snippet’ button.

The theme support already offered me to deliver a child template which should fix the problem. Unfortunately, the 1st attempt was not successful. Will see what the next attempt brings.

I really have no idea why they added their own product description field, instead of using the available one. Many plugins have a problem finding any content on my product pages, like for example Yoast, or plugins I am using for PDF Catalog Generation, XML Sitemaps, Facebook Products Stream etc.

    thank you for the reply

If the custom product description field is created by using the advanced custom fields plugin by your theme developer, you can follow the guide here to add support for the custom field to ensure Yoast SEO can detect the content analyze it.

If your theme developer created the custom field using a different manner, you’ll need to reach out your theme developer for assistance.
