• Hello,
    My blog at https://freeofc.info
All of the sudden my password protected posts stopped working (the page just reloads but doesn’t open the protected posts as usual.)

All of the protected posts are using the same password, and it was working just fine until yesterday when I added a new password protected post…grrr…lol
    Any clues?

    Thanks,
    AnonEmouse

  • I am having the same problem!

Well seems like no one is answering I am having the same problem, mayb it’s a plugin messing up with the code again

I am having a problem where I can only protect one page.
If I protect one the other one does not have the password protected.

    Any thoughts anyone??

I’m glad I found this thread. I’m having the exact same problem, and thought it was due to the 2.9.x upgrade, but I guess it goes back to 2.7. If I password protect a post (using the same password as previous protected posts), the previous protected posts will show up even without a password (though “Protected:” is still in the title).

And then when I go back to those old password protected posts, and just hit update without editing anything (not even the password), then the most recent protected post will display without a password.

I’ve tested this across multiple browsers and operating systems, and it doesn’t seem to be an issue with the cookies. It’s as if one password will somehow reset flags for other protected entries.

Please help! This is very scary.

    The plot thickens:

On the main page (index.php), even if you enter the correct password, it won’t display the post. However, if you click the entry (single.php), it will display.

However, on paginated pages, let’s say page 15 where there’s another password protected post, then the full post displays without a password. Also, the full post will display when viewing it as a single entry.

Other troubleshooting steps I’ve taken so far:

    • Uninstalled my entire WordPress installation, and did a manual re-install.
    • Changed the passwords of my entries, without any noticeable change
    • Disabled all my plugins in case of conflicts, but the problem still exists
    • Made sure all cookies are cleared so that no residual passwords are used

I think I may have it resolved. To further troubleshoot the problem, I tried changing my theme to the default, and all the protected posts seemed to be working correctly. Then I changed it back to my own personal theme, and it appears to have stayed fixed. I’ll keep this thread alive if it reverts back to the problem.

Nope, that didn’t fix it, because when I enter the password into the box, it doesn’t display the entry, and then that restarts everything back to the messed-up way it was, even with the default Kubric theme. So that means it’s not a bug in my theme or the way WordPress serves it. I can’t narrow down a single variable that fixes/breaks the problem. ??
