• Hi there,
I’ve had my blog up for a while now but would appreciate some feedback from everyone using various browsers. I’m using Firefox myself and it looks the way I want it. But when I use IE, the horizontal scrollbar appears on the bottom of the window which just annoys the crap out of me. Would anyone know how to go about removing this while keeping the functionaly of the site the same?
Any other comments would be much appreciated. Thanks.
    Cheers!

It’s possible that these four errors have something to do with the problem. I’ve seen some weird things fixed by validation. https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smaku.com%2F

hey there. one way I suggest is rather than using frames use positioned divs by giving the divs id’s in CSS. Really simple and more control. Looks to me like you’d really only need 4 or 5 divs. Header, Nav, Left, Middle, Right. Get them positioned with some css and should be good in all browsers.

Thanks for the tips. I wasn’t really ensuring that everything was validated correctly but I suppose it doesn’t hurt to do so.
I initially tried doing everything with div tags but ran into some problems… I guess I’m back to the drawing board then; I’ll try and div it up a little more.
    Cheers.

I like the “tag” section on the left of the page…how can I encorperate one of those? Instructions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Wow. That took too long!
Anyway, I fixed the pages up so that it’s all made with DIV tags… my problem still occurs with IE. I’m not sure what IE’s trying to do but I think it may have something to do with the vertical scrollbar taking up space width-wise (the width of the actual scrollbar) since the horizontal scrollbar only moves the same distance as the width of the vertical scrollbar.
I can’t seem to get rid of the hor. scrollbar no matter what I do.
As for the tag board, you can download it here:
    https://www.cj-design.com/index.php?content=downloads&page=5
It’s a third-party script that I’m using. It comes with all the instructions in the download file. It’s very straightforward. Have fun!
    Any other suggestions? TIA.

    Yeah, let it go ??
If you don’t and you figure it out, let me know because my site has the same issue (always has) in IE. The only way I have found to get rid of it is using fixed widths.

Anon (you should maybe think of taking a few seconds to register and create a name for yourself), thanks for the info on the Tag board….Its much appreciated, and your site looks great in FF!

anon….i still see you using frames. did you change it back or something? I’m tryin to help here buuuut I think your frame width is set too high. So I was thinking if you had them as divs they would expand according to the content. rather than spill over and have scroll bars. at least with position relative and use float tags to position them accordingly.
so other than not using frames maybe try tweaking your padding. moz and IE use padding differently, (moz displays correctly).
interestingly enough, when i view just one of your frames (https://www.smaku.com/wp/index.php) it works fine. hmmmm…

i love the clean lines and simplicity of the layout/design. but the tagboard is complicating the design (with the very bold black background). in opera, it isn’t lining up in the sidebar and overflowing into the content area.
i visited other sections of your site as well last nite – very nice!!!!

    Hey guys,
    It’s Anon. hehehe…
Anyway, thanks for the various comments. I initially only took away the bottom frames and left the site with two frames instead of three. But thanks to joeytrimmer I now know it’s something to do with the framing since the actual page itself loads fine.
And actually my other problem about the right DIVed area overflowing in the main content area is solved if I remove the frames too. Maybe that will be the case for in Opera as well.
dkaye315, I actually don’t even see a dark black background in the tagboard. Each tag is meant to alternate between a light gray and white colour.
I’ll have to do some more tweaking now. Thanks.
    Cheers.

who uses IE anyway? (eep!) well glad I could sort of help. Happy tweaking!

the thick black border is still showing up – i did a screen capture for you as it appears using opera 7.52.
