• Hello

I’m having trouble importing my old wordpress site content to my new host.

I decided to switch my host (from Godaddy to Bluehost) due to some reasons reserved with me and did exported my “all content” using the wordpress exporter. After a successful switch, i tried to import the content (using the wordpress importer plugin) but it’s not working.

The responds are: “Failed to Import” “Failed to import Tag”, “Failed to Import Media”

I tried to unselect “Download and Import Media” and still no success. Worst thing is that i have lost access to my old host cPanel – never thought this would happen.

Is this an error at my end, host or plugin – since the domain name is same?

Please help with any vital information on how i could resolve this – can’t afford losing all my (old) contents.

    Thanks in Advance!!!

  • Hello, michaelnjc, & welcome. The problem is that the scripts are likely timing out. If Bluehost permits shell access, then WP-CLI is the perfect tool for this. Otherwise, you may have to break your imports down into smaller pieces.

Thank you Jackie… But my account doesn’t allow SSH Access.

Talking about breaking my import down to smaller pieces? How do i do that since the old site have been removed/deleted?

michaelnjc, Please consult the following to enable SSH (shell access) on your account.
    https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/180

Beyond that, you should, unless GoDaddy has already cancelled your account, be able to log into GoDaddy w/your customer# & password.

    Yeah… Thank you.

Have enabled the Shell Access, working on it now. Will get back to you if successful or not.

Furthermore, i have not lost access to my GoDaddy account (since I run my domain with them) but have lost access to the host account (cPanel).

    Hello

Jackie… Having issue with opening my puTTY, couldn’t connect to my server.

Please do you have any idea on what i should do? My network is okay but can’t load/open puTTY. Always get the responds: “Server unexpectedly closed network connection“.
Contacted bluehost customer service but still mute to my request.

michaelnjc, from the sounds of it, you’re entering the wrong credentials. Unfortunately, these things are not standard amongst hosting providers. Some, like me, use the same ssh credentials as the client’s CPanel. Others have totally different rules. Some also use different ports instead of the standard port 22.

Some links that may prove helpful are:
    https://my.bluehost.com/hosting/help/180 &
    https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/301

Other than that, I don’t really know what to say. Perhaps posting a job on:
    https://jobs.wordpress.net
    might also be helpful.

@michaelnjc, you may need to explicitly specify the SSH port before clicking the connect (open?) button in PuTTY…most hosting companies change the default port.
