I’m new to wordpress, and have a quick question. I basically need to have a user role for “clients” where they can login and view information pertaining to their account and only their account. I’m unsure as to how user roles really work in wordpress and how much power I have to customize them.

How do I go about creating a new role and how do I limit that role’s ability to view information. The information they are viewing will be coming from google analytics so if there is a plugin out there that will simplify that interaction I’d appreciate being pointed in that direction as well.

    Thanks,
    Brandon

    Hi Brandon,

I saw your post and wonder what solution you ended up going with.

I’m playing around with Thomas Schneider’s Role Manager and created a special role which has very limited rights (primarily the right to upload files and edit their own pages).

I’m thinking next I’ll need to create either private pages for each client or password protected pages for each, but very curious to know what you did.

    Thanks for any input.

Hi, I need extensive role admin functions too, for an internal knowledgebase, combined with a client article database.

Are there any plugins that allow role admin?

    Also,

Am I able to make certain categories accessable by certain roles? It seems the roles function is global?

Same question applies for page access, I think I will need this restricted to user roles too… I saw password protection but can roles be used for restricting page access?
