• Hello,

I’m looking for a plugin that will allow users to search for other users. I don’t need to search posts, pages, categories, etc. Just users.

Any ideas? I’ve checked a bunch of the search plugins but did not find one that claimed to be able to do this.

    Thanks

  • I second the request.

I see it can be done in the website:
    https://pghdesigners.com/
by searching inside a member description. but I don’t know how the guy does it.

    any ideas ?

You may want to check out the “Search Unleashed” plugin. It claims to be able to search for “authors”. I don’t know if that means people who have been assigned the role of author, people who have previously published pages or posts, or if it can be applied to any/all registered users regardless of their role or posting or commenting status. I haven’t tried it yet.

If it works for you, let us know and post an example.

I don’t think Search Unleashed does what you’re asking for. I just installed it. I think what they mean by saying it searches authors is that it returns posts that were authored by or commented on by that user. It won’t return a user profile.

    Thanks for letting us know.

    Hi there!
I am looking for exactly the same thing, has anyone found anything?
Also, looking for a plugin that displays users of a certain roll on a page with some kind of [display wordpres users] tag or something?

Looking for this as well, To work with Register Plus Plugin

    Any news on this?

Yep I’m looking too!! Come on people, let’s make this work. Let’s get our brains out…

    Wwhat about “Connections“??

Has anyone found a solution to this? I’m in dire need of a way to search through registered users/authors, but so far haven’t found anything!

Hi – I found this topic googling for ways to search users. Unless I find a better option (none so far) – I will add that functionality to the amr-users plugin. It currently does customisable listings of users, pulling whatever info is in the usermeta (eg: as added by register plus and other plugins). Note current version is soon to be out of date – major update on the way aimed at higher volume sites.

I was thinking of admins searching for users, but I see above people are thinking of viewers (maybe logged in users ?) searching for other users.

    customised search results:
I was thinking it could work well with my userlist (amr-users) plugin as developers could use the list customisation mechanism to define how the search results should look, and possibly also which fields to search.

If anyone would like to clarify their ideas of what they would like the search to be input (what criteria etc) and how the results should work, let me know.

I could bear that in mind as I flesh out how I think it should/could work. Currently the userlists are available as a shortcode [userlist list=2] for example. I can see this also being used to deliver search results.

    PS.
Just had the idea that a customised list as well as posssibly controlling what fields to search, could also be used to limit the search (eg: exclude all admin and moderators for example)
