Vi Random Posts Widget plugin allows us to create a custom random or category posts list as a widget. It gives you a list of random posts via shortcode or widget with thumbnail, excerpt and post date, also you can display it from your custom post type or from a post category.

Installation

1. upload vi-random-posts.zip plugin to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
2. Activate the plugin using the Plugins menu in WordPress.
3. Go to Appearance–>Widgets and use Vi Random Widget for your sidebars.

Don’t know how this plugin was five years ago, but as of today it is great. It has plenty of options, more options than most widgets as a matter of fact – and it works!
