FAQ

Can I accept donations directly on my site?

Yes you can! If you use Stripe, donors will be able to make credit card donations right on your website. If you use PayPal, donors will be redirected to PayPal to complete their donation. You can also use the Offline Donations gateway to allow your donors to create a donation and make the payment via cheque or bank transfer (you can display your payment details to them).

How do I add a grid of fundraising campaigns to my page?

You can accept monthly, quarterly or semi-annually or annually recurring donations with the Recurring Donations extension. This works with PayPal, Stripe, Braintree, Authorize.Net and PayFast.

Can I run peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns with Charitable?

Indeed you can! Charitable is the best way to run peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns with WordPress. Peer-to-peer fundraisers are supported with our Ambassadors extension

Can I let donors pay the gateway processing fees?

Yes. Our Fee Relief extension adds support for this, with the option to set how fees are calculated for different payment gateways. Read more

Does WP Charitable work with WooCommerce?

No. WP Charitable is a standalone donation and fundraising plugin and does not integrate with WooCommerce.

Can I translate Charitable into my language?

You can. Charitable has full localization support through the charitable textdomain. All Charitable extensions are also fully translatable.

During my 4 years with Charitable, I’ve had nothing but a great experience! The plugin works flawlessly, but what really sets these guys apart is SUPPORT. They respond quickly and are extremely helpful to someone who sometimes struggles with implementation details. During these 4 years they’ve made consistent improvements and have been very willing to assist with adapting to the needs of my individual circumstances. Can’t recommend Charitable highly enough.

Critical errors, styling issues, and stuck in draft mode

UPDATE: The issue seems to have been related to the website server. After cloning the website to a different server, the critical error went away, which also took care of the styling problems. Their support team reached out within hours of me leaving this review, so given all that, and how much you can actually do with this free version of their plugin, and think they deserve 5 stars! We are using the free (Lite) version of this plugin. We just wanted to create one simple campaign using PayPal, but every time we finished building a campaign and previewed it, the styling looked weird and at the bottom of the campaign there was a “There has been a critical error on this website” alert. I tried to embed it on an existing page of ours, and then that entire page became inaccessible due to a critical error, and the only way to access that page, even in admin mode, was to disable the Charitable plugin and then delete the embed block. I tried using the shortcode, but no matter how we published or re-published the campaign, whether in standard or legacy mode, all that showed up on the website was a simple, bordered box with the text, “This campaign is currently in draft mode.” Finally, in the Wordpress description of the plugin, in the opening paragraph, it says, “Add a simple donate button…” What they fail to mention is that it is easy to “add a simple donate button” to a campaign, but there is no simple way to add just a donate button to a page or post. You can try to embed a campaign into a page or do so with a shortcode, but you can’t simply add a Donate button to any page.
