{"id":794,"date":"2009-06-21T00:05:14","date_gmt":"2009-06-21T00:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/development\/?p=794"},"modified":"2021-06-04T11:59:19","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T11:59:19","slug":"wordpress-2-8-1-beta-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/news\/2009\/06\/wordpress-2-8-1-beta-1\/","title":{"rendered":"WordPress 2.8.1 Beta 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve started work on the first maintenance release to 2.8.\u00a0 2.8.1 will fix a handful of bugs that turned up in 2.8.\u00a0 Today we&#8217;re releasing the first beta of 2.8.1.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/wordpress-2.8.1-beta1.zip\">Download<\/a> it, and check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/core.trac.wordpress.org\/query?status=closed&amp;group=resolution&amp;order=priority&amp;milestone=2.8.1&amp;resolution=fixed\">bugs fixed so far<\/a>.\u00a0 Here are some of the notable issues that are fixed in beta 1.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Certain themes were calling get_categories() in such a way that it would fail in 2.8. 2.8.1 works around this so these themes won&#8217;t have to change.<\/li>\n<li>Dashboard memory usage is reduced.\u00a0 Some people were running out of memory when loading the dashboard, resulting in an incomplete page.<\/li>\n<li>The automatic upgrade no longer accidentally deletes files when cleaning up from a failed upgrade.<\/li>\n<li>A problem where the rich text editor wasn&#8217;t being loaded due to compression issues has been worked around.<\/li>\n<li>Extra security has been put in place to better protect you from plugins that do not do explicit permission checks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you would like to automatically upgrade from 2.8 to 2.8.1 Beta 1, follow <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.org\/download\/nightly\/\">these instructions<\/a>.\u00a0 Thanks for testing WordPress.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve started work on the first maintenance release to 2.8.\u00a0 2.8.1 will fix a handful of bugs that turned up in 2.8.\u00a0 Today we&#8217;re releasing the first beta of 2.8.1.\u00a0 Download it, and check out the bugs fixed so far.\u00a0 Here are some of the notable issues that are fixed in beta 1.
